Another one of those days that you think you know how they'll be, but you're wrong. In a good way.
So Laura briefly mentioned last week that she was interested in going to see The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and since she is off on Tuesdays and I managed to get the day off, I suggested going today. Then I never heard back, so I said, that's cool, I'll putter around the house.
Then mom said, we'll go grocery shopping when I get back from the doctor. What time do you want to go? I said two.
She was gone for a while. In the meantime, I showered and wrote a little bit, and when I finished I had lunch.
Then Laura called. Would I still be interested in seeing the movie? I said okay, and I'd call when I got back from shopping. (It was only about one then.)
Then my grandfather called, among other things, to remind me that his birthday is on Monday. You're still getting coal, old man.
Mom got home, we went shopping, it was relatively uneventful as shopping trips with my mother go. Perhaps someday I'll detail such a thing, but now is not the time. I called Laura immediately upon completion of the grocery put-away and we went right to the mall for the four o'clock show.
We saw the movie. It was very good. I give it three and a half hankies, which I really could've used. I'm prone to weepiness as it is; I spent a good third of the movie with tears in my eyes. It made me want to go to Greece, as well. Like I wasn't already into it from all the classical studies I've taken (Latin, mythology, Greek and Roman culture, all that good stuff). I was also highly amused by the store one of the characters worked at: Wallman's. It's like it combined the music store and the bookstore into one. Frightening--aka my worst nightmare. *shudders*
Before we left, we stopped up at work. I wanted to see what was going on. Aha, just as I thought--two people could not do the work of me. The discounting did not get done. I'm telling you, I am the Tuesday Queen. I've worked on my discounting system for months now. Between that and my inherent anal-retentiveness, I'm a kick-ass change-outer-person. Yeah.
Laura had mentioned playing book lover's Trivial Pursuit with a coworker and his wife, so she played phone tag with him for a while trying to set up something. In the meantime, we went to Chili's. My sandwich? Good. Laura's salad? Not so much. And since it was so hot outside, there was no point in taking it with, as it would wilt even further. (Yes, each time I got in my car, my temp gauge read 100F. Um, it's not *that* warm...but the first time I drove it, the temp gauge didn't go down. Not good.)
She got a hold of her coworker during a much-needed potty break (mine, not hers) and we decided to meet at his place. Since my house was sort of on the way, we decided to drop my car off. I took a back route, and Laura took the, er, "scenic" route, so in case she needed a potty break mom and I quickly picked up the house. She ended up being okay. So, off we went. The complex is only a few miles down the road from my house, but when we got to the Walgreens across the street from there, Laura's phone started beeping--another voicemail. Her coworker and his wife were stuck in Naperville with something and wouldn't be home until much later than anticipated. Since the two of us open tomorrow, we figured staying late wouldn't be a good idea...so we went up to Cold Stone Creamery instead. :) Before we left, we did take a mini-tour of the complex so that if we try this again, we'll know where to go...and we thought the complex looked very nice, and they're leasing... We joked that Laura was going to try to get information out of the coworker, like, so how much is the rent? How are your neighbors? Are the walls thick or thin, sound-wise? Then, if we do get to go over there (we might try again next week), we'll do some sneaky-peeky spying to see what the place is like. Hmm. Interesting.
