Ping Pong - Please Explain the Ending to Me

I am very distressed. I lost my wallet somewhere in Perth sometime in the last two days (or so). It doesn't seem to be in my old house anywhere, but it could be in any one of four cars, or possibly on a bus, or lying on the ground between my old house and my new house, or somewhere in my new house. If it's in my new house, it's almost as bad as if it's lost on the streets of Perth: I just managed to get everything put away in such a way that the place looks like someone lives there (i.e. six gazillion boxes of books are stacked neatly under my table, the ugly bags fill the closet, and the five big luggage bags full of stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else are sitting in spaces I don't need just now). If I have to take everything out and look all through that to find this wallet...! But I also don't want to have to cancel all of my cards and try to live on spare change for the next--however long it takes to get new cards, or to buy a new wallet. :(( The nomadic life is so hard.

(Edit: I found it, tucked away safely in my bag. But not one of the two bags I've been carrying back and forth between my houses for the past four days, or one of the fifteen other bags I took to my new house. It was in the one small bag that I left at my old place in the middle of trash I haven't yet cleaned up, a load of laundry I want to get done before I need to start using a laundromat, and an old rug I'm not taking with me. Of course I won't need my wallet from Wednesday until Sunday, right? Good job, AC.)

Anyway, I finished watching Ping Pong, and the ending confused me. Did Peco win the tournament? What happened to Smile at the end? Is he, like, not as good a player as everyone hoped, or is Peco just that good, or was he totally lying to his coach when he implied that he wouldn't let up just because his friend was injured? Did he ever get over his inability to play to win against Peco? What happened! It feels to me like Peco's character developed at the expense of Smile's (which regressed), but I'm quite bad at figuring out things with lots of movement so I'm very possibly misinterpreting everything.
