I've been thinking about Orochimaru pretty heavily for the past, like, two months--in anime club, we're watching the arc with the Gaara-Naruto and the Orochimaru-Sarutobi fights (and, man, if there's anything I want to see more of, it's Orochimaru-Sarutobi interaction). So, correct me if I've contradicted something in canon or forgotten to take

... Orochimaru can love Kabuto.
It is hard to write down what I mean because all I'm getting are feelings rather than concrete thoughts. It is all about watching Orochimaru watching Kabuto, and my mind whispering Orochima can fall love him. And this lead to my brain going into AU-phase, where it is years into the future, and everything that could go wrong has gone wrong.
Naruto died saving Konoha, which left Sasuke alone and in despair, and giving his body to Orochimaru, and Orochimaru in a Uchiha's body goes on a rampage, killing Itachi, and only able to reach the final Sharingan level because he killed Kabuto, because he did love Kabuto in his own way, ( ... )

The dynamics between the two relationships are comes across as very different to me; S and O are almost like father and son, while the dynamics between O and K are a bit more complex
Well, that's partly because Orochimaru doesn't have it in him to be a father figure, really. He's not the type. He owns, yes, but he doesn't shape. He pushes, and then he watches; he doesn't guide. I still think there might be a loose parallel there, in the possible deaths. (Because I don't think Orochimaru has it in him to kill Kabuto, but I do think that Kabuto has it in him to kill Orochimaru. If it ever becomes more useful for him to do that than to keep Orochimaru around. <--Kabuto probably loves Orochimaru, too, but he's way colder & more thoughtful, even when angry.) There is way more ( ... )

OK, I remember that hospital scene, but is that being abusive, or just you are going to lose all hope in humanity type of thing? ‘Cos you know that’s not abusive.
Orochimaru as anyone’s father is… is so unbelievably fucked-up that I’m not even going to go there. In addition, because Orochimaru has not cacked yet I’m going to keep on refusing to see the parallels in their deaths. MWAHHAHAHA!
(Because I don't think Orochimaru has it in him to kill Kabuto,
Very astute, and I’m not sure how ‘real’ I perceive this to be; in canon there has never been an occasion where Kabuto betrays Orochimaru. Sure, there are moments you know that he’s thinking about it, but he never carry through with it. Hell, when Orochimaru would have been relatively easy to take care of, Kabuto stayed by him and assisted Orochimaru. The question is; what does Kabuto wants/needs from Orochimaru. Anyways, back to point; on ( ... )

I don't think it's abusive, no. It's certainly not entirely a positive thing, though. (Which, uh, you might expect, given Orochimaru's general personality. And Kabuto's, for that matter.)
Fortunately for us, Orochimaru is doing his best not to become fatherly, even to the point of not growing older. :D He might yet miss out on the slaughter-by-protegé.
OK, well. We've never seen Kabuto actually betray Orochimaru, no--but that'd be in the future, anyway. The thing is, he has thought about it, and more than once. And we already know quite a bit about his past, although we don't know much about his motivations: we know that Sound is his third village, that he managed to learn a lot of high-level jutsus etc. without at the same time gathering any real expectations from people (although he did get more of a reputation as a slimeball than Orochimaru, if we're to believe the people who catch them out in their crimes). We know ( ... )
