Within the past few days, I rewatched Breakfast at Tiffany's with a group of friends and also learned of the passing of a very dear friend.
You may not be able to herd cats, but you can certainly chase them.
Doing what cats do best.

Cats are really infuriating things. They refuse to do what you want them to, generally, but then when you're upset they're like a godsend, all furry and quiet and hungering for your lap.
This particular cat - who unlike Audrey Hepburn's orange cat in the movie, has multiple names - had perhaps the most unique personality I've encountered in line after line of farm cats. He was very eager to be petted and especially to sit in your lap (which really weighed you down, with all 25 pounds of him! And, he might slobber on your jeans a little), but after about 10-15 minutes, that was enough. The tail begins lashing. He cocks his head, lowers his ears. There wasn't a mean streak in this cat's body, but if you reached to pet him after this point, his stockinged white paws would go for you. The tail would lash with increased insanity. You would give in to the impulse to tease him, rubbing the top of his head where his claws didn't have easy access. And it would be an all-out war until you retreated, Eeyore leaping after you and grabbing your legs.
He was my aunt and uncle's cat, the best farm cat one could ask for. My mom tells me when her brother was out in the shop fixing something, perhaps on his stomach working on something, Eeyore would saunter over and drape himself over my uncle's shoulders. He certainly spent a lot of time just following him around.
And I know Eeyore was good with kids. He could lay on my aunt's lawn for half an hour batting a ball back and forth with one of my aunt's grandkids; never using his claws, but eyes sparking with an insane gleam all the same.
I, personally, will never forget him warming my lap after bus rides from public school, or out on my aunt and uncle's deck while dropping something off or helping them husk corn.
He met an untimely end, it is believed, with a car on the road.
So long, Cecil. Your passing is mourned.
