Feeling suspicious makes sense - I think there is a much subtler discourse, with more "branches." For example, it seems to me there are a lot more (women, at least) willing to say they're bi or flexible re: sexual partners. It's hardly an eye-opener, and kid of loser-ish to brag as if you're a rebel. Umm, yeah, that and a tattoo and belly button ring make you SO cool. *feel the sarcasm*
Otoh, I'm absolutely bitter about the word "identity" at this point, and frankly have experienced more discrimination and attempts to force me into an "identity" from the queer community than elsewhere. So I don't "identify" with The Community because I don't feel included or welcome.
And Pride Weekend? Sorry, but it seems like it's devolved into the worst of both groups. So I took my proud queer ass to an extra-long meditation session, and am just gonna keep wandering along as an out individual.
Bleah. I should add that yes, homophobia IS alive and well, and I gather there are still people who find The Community to be their cup of tea. I get it. Just not my cup of tea.
