Grr!!! I'm angry right now with Catholic Theology! I hate it! Ok before I start ranting, I'm not trying to offend any of you Catholics, but if you're super sensitive about this, don't read it. And feel free to argue with me ( Read more... )

*sigh* Purgatory...First let me say...when I talked to a CATHOLIC NUN about the reasons we have purgatory...she told me it was to make Catholics feel better She said for example that if a mass murderer had a COMPLETE change of heart and dedicated his life to God 5 minutes before getting a injection for the death penalty then we die the a year later after living a WHOLE life devoted to God...it makes us feel better to think that we would get to heaven first out of the two of them...when I asked her why we shouldn't rejoice that someone else in the world turned their life to God instead of being selfish and jealous...she just said "Alice...your old enough to know the world isn't like that"...which is true...but isn't the Church's job to show us, the world, what we should be like instead of inventing things to make us feel better?? Makes u really think...Now I know that this was just ONE person's opinion...but let me get to the basis...Catholics base their belief of purgatory on 1Corinthians 3: 10-15 (amoung other verses)...its way to long to type...but my response to this...along with many other verses I've talked about is simply this verse says nothing about Purgatory...it says clearly that the believer's WORKS would be tested in fire...not that the BELIEVER would be tested. This passage does however talk about the reward or loss of reward at the judgement seat...but doesn't say anything in regard to Purgatory...in fact is says that the believer will be saved...Also...the book 1 Corinthians was written to believers who had already been saved...meaning that they were in no need of "purging" because they had full possession of God's salvation. Furthermore...the Bible tells us that we are "purged of our sins" not by a fire in a place called purgatory...but by Christ's blood!! ("The blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies is from all sin." Romans 8:1) So, because of Christ's sacrafice on the cross...we do not need purgatory! Christ's death was for our salvation...with faith in this belief we will be granted salvation...and enter heaven...without having to be "purged" in purgatory for we will have already been cleansed by Christ's blood. (Another thing...the idea of Purgatory didn't even come around until 1438...interesting! what did all the people believe before that? They believed in Heaven and Hell just like the Bible says)

okay...I read that in the book we have too...which is COMPLETELY ridiculous! We're told OVER and OVER in the Bible that we shouldn't even be drunk!Psalm 20:1 says, "Wine is mocker and beer is brawler; whoever is led astray be them is not wise" that doesn't quite sound to me like God's saying that we can go commit whatever sin we like but as long as we're drunk its okay! Sounds more like He's telling us that if we do something like that its WORSE than just sinning!

Once again...I didn't write any of this to offend anyone or make anyone feel bad...I wrote it because it is MY belief...and (another thing the Bible says- Colossins 4: 2-6) LJ is just a form of witnessing! *Wink*
