Please help by sending a -- polite email -- to the city of NY. NYC is again trying to place limits on photography. Fortunately, we've kept taking any pictures on the subway legal and can do it again. Thanks!

Help keep taking photographs legal in NYC!

Here's what's up:

New York City has proposed new rules that would require permits and insurance for a wide range of casual and amateur photography and filmmaking.
Read more here about the proposed rules and what you can
do -- before the comment period closes this Friday, August 3rd -- to file objections.

What are the new proposed rules?

Under new rules proposed on May 25, 2007 by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcast (MOFTB), any group of two or more people using a handheld camera (still or video) for more than 30 minutes at a single location (defined as a 100-foot area) would have to apply for and obtain a permit and would have to present proof of $1 million in insurance (unless a waiver was obtained). Also under the new rules, any group of five or more people using a single tripod for more than 10 minutes would have to obtain a permit and have insurance.

Thanks!

I'm definitely going to sign the petition for this. Anyone else that uses even a dollar store pawnshop cam in NYC should sign this petition, too. I don't understand this at all... Don't even get me talking about the whole street photography bit. I've argued that point more than enough, especially here on LJ in various posts.
