man, I am watching ALL THE THINGS lately. now that I've got netflix I seem to be catching up on shows and movies I've been meaning to watch forever.
first, I watched Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo. it was fucking DISTURBING.
ok, seriously, this movie contains just about EVERYTHING that squicks me out. there's multiple, brutal rape scenes, there's DOUBLE incestuous rape, there's torture and murder and Nazis and racial/religious fanaticism. EVERYTHING THAT CREEPS ME OUT, IN ONE FUCKED UP MOVIE. who comes up with this?
but, that's not to say I didn't like it. I enjoy thriller/mystery stories, and unraveling the clues and putting the pieces together. and I like Lisbeth, she's a fucking badass. but yeah, there were some scenes that just made me so uncomfortable I couldn't even watch, and I'm not usually squeamish.
I might see the American version when it comes out, just because Daniel Craig? yes please. I also might finish the trilogy eventually, but I need some time for my poor psyche to recover.
so if you've been thinking of watching it, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
then I watched Downton Abbey, which was as fantastic as everyone's been saying for months. I guess I never really thought about the early 20th century still being so Victorian in manners and social attitudes. but I loved all the characters (except the ones I hated), and following all the scandals and happenings of the household. I like Sybil best, I hope there will be more of her story in S2. I was so relieved to find out there would be another season, because the last ep just kind leaves off, and I was sitting here like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO MEEEEEE. so, yeah, another thing to look forward to this fall.
but now I'm craving some Victorian romance novels like whoa. anyone have any suggestions besides Jane Austen or Georgette Heyer? (I've read all of Austen and I can't stand Heyer).
I also just started watching Skins and all I can think is HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK. but without his super adorable nerdy glasses. it's weird to see him playing such a different character, I'm still trying to get over the fact that he's not Hank. oh, and that Will isn't Will. I should learn their real names one of these days.
so yeah, that's pretty much what I've been up to lately. not much in the way of rl news to report.
