Ok, so in general, I am not a political person. I barely watch the news. even when I lived in DC, I mostly ignored whatever was going on on Capitol Hill. call me irresponsible, uninformed, whatever, it's just never been high on my agenda. unless the politics happened pre-1980s, in which case ~HISTORY, YAY.
But one issue I am passionate about is gay rights. I'm lucky to live in a state and region where gay marriage is pretty firmly entrenched, though that doesn't mean we don't have gay bashing just like anywhere else.
I don't know what rock I've been living under, but somehow I just discovered
Fckh8 today.
maybe they'll offend some people's sensibilities, but I find the videos funny and witty (but I am a fan of swearing like a sailor, and for some reason I find kids swearing amusing. oh the things I will one day teach my hypothetical future nieces...) I think pretty much everyone knows about Prop 8 by now, but that Tennessee law in the first video is another vicious one that really needs more attention.
there's also
Fandoms Against H8, which has hilarious pairing-specific t-shirts, and contributes proceeds to the cause.
so, yeah. HILARITY. ISSUES. GAY LOVE. COOL T-SHIRTS. GO CHECK THEM OUT.
in other news, I'm still procrastinating on my pthon entry. surprise, surprise...
