I now seem to have the lurgy which is going round. Felt very depressed and tired for no real reason on Wednesday night which is usually a sign that I'm about to get sick. This morning I went out to the chiropodist (more on that later) came back and did an exercise DVD. Realised whilst I was doing the DVD that my muscles were really achey. Now I have a sore throat, a bit of a temperature and feel generally yucky. It's June for goodness sake. I shouldn't be getting colds in June. I blame the stupid, changeable weather conditions.
The chiropodist also provided me with bad news. The verucca is no longer decreasing in size. She suggested that I might want to give up the treatment and just go back every so often to see whether there is any change. I'm not standing for that. I'm determined to get rid of the stupid thing. I want to be able to wear open toed shoes without a plaster on my big toe. I've decided to adopt a different tactic. I'm going to start going back every week to see whether we can blast the thing out of existence. At £15 a time it's all a bit expensive but needs must.
And most annoyingly of all... Asda have stopped selling my favourite Thai curry sauce. Blue Dragon Royal Thai Curry Sauces (Red and Green varieties) are perfect for me. They come in sachet form. You chuck them in a wok with a bit of chicken and some veg, bring it to the boil, then simmer for 15 minutes and it's done. It really tastes like proper Thai Curry as well, not the horribly sweet stuff you get in jars. I know I could buy curry paste instead but then I have to get coconut milk, half of which always ends up going to waste because it doesn't keep. I've checked the website and Asda are the only UK stockists. Woe is me! I'm going to have to come up with some new dinner ideas.
Mum gave her seal of approval to the dress. I wish I'd got her to take a photo of me wearing it. Now I need a strapless bra that actually fits, a fushia pink cardie and accessories. I may also buy new shoes if I see any as the strappy sandals I was considering aren't likely to be suitable for October in the countryside.
I spent most of the evening with my parents. Have now converted the family tree for my current surname (i.e. my dad's, dad's part of the family) into Excel to send to our random relative in the USA. Just need to make a slight change as I've left something out of the key (that a dotted line means the person was adopted into the family) and it's good to go. Made me feel like my day was productive despite the fact I felt a bit rubbish and it was raining.
I've just finished watching 'Turn Left' on iPlayer. I was gripped all the way through. The storyline was strong and Catherine Tate managed not to annoy me at all. It was basically a twist on the whole 'It's a Wonderful Life' premise of 'what would have happened if I'd never...' RTD also threw in some social commentary about refugees for good measure. A shudder went down my spine as the Italian family were sent to the 'labour camp'. I always feel when people make negative comments about refugees that they fail to put themselves in their place. I wonder how they would feel if they were fleeing danger and met with a hostile reception. Although the involvement of aliens is clearly a bit unrealistic I still think it's valuable to try and make the UK population think about the issues.
Cardiff was pretending to be London again, then later on it was pretending to be Leeds. It's a good job there are so many different styles of house in South Wales! Billie Piper was quite annoying. Despite my mother's feelings otherwise I really don't think she's much of an actress and her eyebrows get on my nerves.
It was clearly an episode which required prior knowledge of the previous series of New Who. I would have thought first time or occasional viewers would have been totally confused by the first half hour at least.
It will be interesting to see how next week's episode turns out. Cramming Torchwood, Rose & family, Martha, and the Sarah Jane Adventures Team all in one episode seems a bit OTT. I wonder whether RTD is going to kill off the whole of the last four series worth of 'Whoniverse' ready for a fresh start under The Moff. The four 'specials' next year may well just be stand alone adventures with different/odd/no companions and then The Moff will plan his own companion for 2010. Of course we don't know whether No 10 is going to make it through alive. And has another series of Torchwood been confirmed yet? It's also worth remembering that Jenny is still out there somewhere. Maybe she's the future of Dr Who. We shall see, I guess.
On Thursday I went to see an amateur production of a 'comedy thriller' called Deathtrap at the Hampton Hill Playhouse. It was OK. Funny in parts but a bit boring in others. A majority of the first scene of the second act consisted of one character describing to the other what happened in the first act which made me lose interest a bit. The guy who played the second unfortunately appeared to be a graduate of the 'Keith from the Office School of Acting' i.e. an oak tree would be less wooden. However, he knew all his lines and did a very good job of the three (yes three) death scenes he was required to act.
keladeekadys would have appreciated the large number of weapons on display ranging from swords, through axes to a mace. There was a sign in the foyer stating that pyrotechnics would be used so I knew there would be at least one gun shot. I don't like loud bangs so I was on my guard. Sadly the person doing the gunshot sound effect didn't quite get it in time with the guy pulling the trigger. Ruined the effect a bit. All in all it was OK. Was worth going to but I'm not in any hurry to see it again
My sister is currently at a friend's hen party. They all had to wear wigs which she wasn't very enthusiastic about. I'm hoping she got an afro wig so I can borrow it for a 70s theme do I'm going to in September. Anyway, she was even more worried about the fact a stripper had been ordered. I'm under strict instructions not to even consider getting a stripper for hers. She's got no fear of that. I find them tacky and hideously embarrasing. I'm responsible for sorting out her hen do but I can't control her friends who are generally a lot louder and more boisterous than mine. I wonder what I'm letting myself in for...
