The shit hasn't even begun to hit the fan

Shocked at the way I'd been ordered out of his office, I hadn't even bothered to stopped to argue with Angel. Something peculiar was going on with him, and I had to admit my curiousity was piqued. Especially after my encounter with young Mr. Reilly. Certainly something about him had set Harmony off. While Angel was content to believe that it was simply Harmony's vampiric nature, I had a feeling it was something more. Angel had been acting quite strangely for some time now. I'd been willing to write it off as the stress of running Wolfram and Hart had been getting to him, add to that Cordelia escaping with Faith upon awakening from her state of comatose.

I had a strange sense of...de ja vous around Connor and on my way up to the lab my thoughts kept wondering back to him. Perhaps it was just my usual paranoia but I wanted to check into the young man's background, just to be sure. Of course when you work for an evil law firm, one can never be sure what will be throw their way next. It was far better to be prepared, Lord knows we didn't need anymore surprises around here.

Walking past the special ops unit I stopped for a moment. When was the last time I'd seen Charles? He hadn't popped by my office in weeks, and he had made a habit of stopping by daily before that. Of course I had noticed, but I'd merely thought he was keeping his distance for a time. Surely someone must have told him about the relationship between Fred and I. But he had been away much too long come to think of it. It was surprising that I hadn't seen him in passing in the hallways or Angel's office.

Curious now, I pushed the doors opena nd was surprised to see someone else sitting at Charles' desk.

"Excuse me." I said as I approached the desk. "I'm looking for Charles Gunn."

"I'm sorry. Mr. Gunn isn't in today. Is there something I can do for you?" The man turned cold dark eyes on me.

"Uh...no, thank you." I said, quickly before turning away and exiting the way I'd come in.

Now I knew I wasn't paranoid. Something strange was going on around here. As much as I'd like to confront Angel directly, I thought that might not be the wisest course of action. It seemed a better idea to investigate on my own first. Especially since I was getting a vague feeling that Angel didn't trust me lately. I could not for the life of me ever remember giving him a reason to distrust me.

Perhaps I'd discuss this all with Winifred, and see waht she thought about it. She was the smartest of us all and she might see something that I had overlooked.

Walking into the lab she greeted me with a bright smile and I couldn't help but smile back at her. She had that effect on me.

"Hello Fred."
