Just a perfect day

After saying that he had a surprise for me, Matt picked me up as usual on Monday morning and we headed off for the day's mischief. It turned out that we were on our way to go trail riding at the barn where his older sister Jen teaches riding lessons! Matt said at the beginning of the summer that I would be back on a horse before the summer was out, and, lo and behold, he was right :) I hadn't gone riding since the fourth grade, so I was absolutely stoked :D Anyway, when we arrived at the barn, Jen pointed out which horses we would be taking out, and we lead them outside to get them brushed off and tacked up. Then it was up into the saddle and time to hit the trail. We rode English-style which took a little getting used to since there was no horn to hang onto when going downhill. However, I was riding Peanut, a very docile Welsh Mountain Pony who was happy to just plod along, so it was pretty easy to get accustomed to it. We spent about forty minutes riding along the trail that loops around the pastures and paddocks and through the woods and fields out by the main road. There were a bunch of butterflies out and about, and we got to see a hawk swoop overhead and land in a nearby tree. When we got back to the barn area, we headed over to a covered arena to try our hand at trotting around and learning to post. After that, it was time to hose down our horses and turn them out to pasture. Matt and I had an absolutely wonderful time--hopefully we'll be seeing Jen and the horses again soon :D

Although there was a nice breeze and it remained overcast while we were out riding, by the time we were through, the sun was coming out and Matt and I agreed that it was time to hit the pool. The remaining part of the afternoon was spent swimming. After dinner, we treked over to Matt's theater to see Lady in the Water. I can't really describe it because it was kind of a weird story, but I liked it. It certainly wasn't what I was expecting. Finally, we finished out the evening by playing some brutal rounds of rummy while polishing off some of the rum. All in all, it was a perfect day spent with the perfect person. :)

In other news, preparations for BreyerFest are still going. Some things still have to be packed, but it's pretty much all collector's class stuff so it'll get taken care of tomorrow. It's hard to believe that some people are already at the HIN cruising the hallways :) Only two more days! :D
