Matt and I went off to the wedding of one of his friends last Saturday. We piled into Karl's Explorer along with Jeff and his sister Kathy and headed down to Brooks, Georgia which is kind of out in the boonies. I wasn't going to complain, though, since there were plenty of horses to see :) Anyway, the ceremony was quite nice as well as pretty short. Afterward, we all trooped over to the reception hall for dinner and dancing. I usually make a point of not dancing in public as I have absolutely no idea how. However, Matt hauled me into a conga line and we wound up dancing up front for quite some time. I didn't sweat the slow numbers 'cos you're pretty good to go on those as long as you've got a sense of rhythm. The jazzier tunes were fun though, too, since a lot of them were songs from the 40s and 50s. Who knows, maybe I could get used to this dancing thing ;)
On the way home, we stopped into a liquor store and picked up a couple bottles of vodka. We then proceeded back to Matt's emptpy house to play Taboo and Twister. Taboo went pretty well, but by the time we got to Twister, it was anyone's game. In any case, it was an enjoyable way to finish out the evening.
I went to the zoo on Wednesday with Matt. We got a good look at almost all the critters--except for the clouded leopard since we couldn't spot (no pun intended :D ) him is his enclosure--and I mananged to get some pretty good shots of the zebras to use as references when I paint. The otters were "otterly" cute and fun to watch, and it was neat to see the big cats. We also got to watch the elephants being fed, and there was a huge exhibit of exotic birds which perched in the trees near where we were standing and swooped all around us. The house of reptiles wes very cool--both literally and figuratively. They had two huge pythons, a king cobra, a black mamba, and a water moccasin to name a few. They also has several crocodiles, an alligator snapping turtle, and a whole slew of other snakes, turtles, lizards, iguanas, moniters, and frogs. We went pretty early in the morning, so it wasn't too brutally hot yet. However, it felt really good to stand in front of the fans blowing cool mist which were scattered around the place. After seeing all the various and assorted animals, we decided to head back to Matt's place to throw ourselves in the pool before dinner. After not eating anything all day except a glass of orange juice and a cup of coffee a piece, we figured that we might as well attempt to conquer the 1 lb. burger at Fuddrucker's. We placed our order, and when it was served up, the waiter sized us up and said, "Are you kidding?" We certainly proved we weren't however, since be both managed to demolish our burger. Matt even had enough room left over to squeeze in a side of fries. I will admit that we had to spend a good hour just walking around the mall in order to placate our stomachs afterward :)
Hmmm, in other news, BreyerFest is right around the corner--eeek!!! I still have to make out tags for everyone as well as finish boxing things up now that the collector's classes have finally been finalized. I finished painting the little horse for our contest entry, so that at least is off my shoulders. If I have time, I might try to finish off a few more zebras and quaggas to sell--we'll see.
This coming week is the last week of my summer class, and I must say it's going to be a relief. It was a lot more work than I had bargained on--simply because I was going off my prior colloquium experience. Oh well, I guess it just goes to show you can't assume anything. I've got a final presentataion to do with my group on the afternoon I leave for BreyerFest. I can't wait for it to be over so we can head up to Kentucky :D
