[What do you do when you’re bored?]

The Cullen house was quiet, something that had become more common now that Jacob and Nessie had their own home. It was something they were all getting used to. Jasper was draped over the couch reading a book on the Roman Empire and watching Alice rearrange flowers in a vase on the mantle.

“Go ask Emmett to play. He’s bored too,” Alice said with a glance back at Jasper. He quirked an eyebrow up at her, a grin just barely tugging at the corner of his lips. It passed for nearly a full smile with Jasper. He got up, laying the book on the floor next to the couch and walked across the room to place a kiss on Alice’s cheek. She already had her face tilted into it. He chuckled, a throaty, grumble of a sound then turned to go outside. Emmett was there in the hammock, one leg swinging back and forth as he skipped rocks across the river.

“Where’s Rose?” Jasper asked.

“Pissed at me,” Emmett answered. “There was a football game on last night and apparently she had a new nightgown.”

Jasper bit his bottom lip and nodded as he shoved his hands in his pockets. “Right. She’ll get over it.”

“Yeah, she’s just not speaking to me at the moment,” Emmett looked up at him and grinned. “Besides, there’s no way she can stay pissed at me. She gets to wanting a little something something-“

“Right. Got it,” Jasper interrupted. “Wrestling? I mean if she’s pissed…”

Emmett was out of the hammock and across the yard before Jasper finished his sentence. “Rules?” Emmett asked.

Jasper shrugged in response and started pulling his sweater over his head. “Don’t break the house. Esme will be pissed and she doesn’t get over it as easy as Rose does.”

“I’m gonna put a hurting on you, Confederate Boy.” Emmett loved to trash talk and it took him about 2.4 seconds to launch into it. He had his shirt off and was pacing his end of the yard. He had brute strength and size on his side but Jasper was clever, quick and brilliant when it came to strategy.

“You might find the tables turned, Bear Food,” Jasper responded, a feral grin spreading across his face.

The collision sounded like an avalanche. Grass was plowed up as Emmett pushed Jasper back until he hit a tree. The tree gave first, crashing to the ground, Emmett and Jasper went with it, making the ground shake every bit as much as the tree had.

“I’m going to clean you up like the white trash you are,” Jasper bellowed as he pulled Emmett’s arm up behind his back.

“Oh come on, Jazz, that’s pretty pot and kettle. I’ve seen the pictures of the guys in the bed sheets,” Emmett volleyed back as he flipped Jasper over his head. The smaller vampire landed on the bank of the river, part of it crumbling into the water as Jasper bounced to his feet and charged the bigger vampire.

“I’m from Texas, Emmett. We hunted Indians. Get it right,” he growled, nearly taking Emmett’s head off in a headlock.
“No wonder the Pack can’t stand you,” Emmett laughed, shoving Jasper several feet across the yard and into a boulder. The rock cracked around both of them, reduced to rubble in their wake.

“What’s your excuse, Bear Bait?” Jasper responded. They hadn’t noticed the audience of wolves and vampires they’d attracted until Carlisle got their attention with a shrill whistle.

“You’ve both torn up the yard quite enough,” he said. “You can begin repairing it to alleviate your boredom for a bit longer. And you might plant some of those tulips Esme was thinking about while you’re at it.”

There’s a tense moment then Emmett was grinning and slapping Jasper a high five. “Dude, I think you’re getting stronger. That tree you broke over my back just sorta shattered to splinters.”

Jasper returned the easy-going, loping grin. “Yeah, I think that’s the one I carved AJ 4-ever into the first time we lived here.”

“Crap. Alice gonna be pissed?” Emmett asked as he picked his tee shirt up and tugged it over his head.

“No, Alice is not going to be pissed,” Alice said as she daintily stepped over a chunk of rock. “I saw my poor tree being destroyed but I also saw this…” she tiptoed and kissed the upturned corner of Jasper’s grin. “That’s worth my tree.”
