Interesting. S.E. Hinton had a habit of capitalizing "Socs" but not "greasers", at least from what I see anyway. I wonder why that was. If I were a psychologist or something, I would say that she subconsciously felt inferior to the Socs and was displaying that by representing Socs as more important with capitalization, but alas, I'm not, and plus, I think that's going a bit overboard on the whole psychoanalyzation thing.
Question--is The Outsiders a part of school required reading and heavily taught in other states? It's pretty huge here, but Tulsa is pretty much my next door neighbor, so I used to just figure that it was because S.E. Hinton lives in OK and because Tulsa is so close by that we taught it, but it seems that my initial impression has been wrong.
I keep looking at my mirror where a picture of my prom date and I from last year is tucked into the frame, and just underneath it is a picture of him and I, on the same sides of the picture, from almost ten years ago when we took a tennis camp together. I don't know why, but I just think it is the cutest thing, even if he and I are nto dating and are not right for each other. He's still a good guy, and it seemed interesting to me that he was my first prom date, and I his, when our parents used to take stroller walks with us together. Coincidental, I guess.
I doubt I've mentioned this before, but I have an obsession with anything that has to do with horoscopes and astrology. I do believe that you can at least come up with a rough outline of what a person's personality is like based on that, although I'm not so sure I believe the horooscopes that tell you what will happen to you. For example, I am a Pisces.
According to the newest book I've bought, the main highlights are that "Pisces is the sign of illusion and delusion and of things that lack a concrete form", "of all the signs, PIsces is the most sensitive", "you can also be the most susceptible to outside influences, both good and bad", "when real life becomes too ugly, too harsh, or too difficult, you have a strong desire to escape", "drugs and alcohol can be a bigger temptation and more difficult to shake for you than for others", "you may deal with the need to escape reality by using your glorious imagaination and delicate sense of beauty to create art, literature, or music", "many of you are attracted to the stage", "since theater, movies, art, poetry, fiction, and photography are reflections of reality rather than reality itself, they are natural fields for you", "Pisceans often have a vague, dreamy quality", "the dreams you have when you're asleep may be truly prophetic, alerting you to future events that will actually happen", and "you are kind, compassionate, sensitive, artistic, romantic, and emotional". All of which is pretty true.
And my ascendent, which I calculated long ago and forgot what it is precisely, but I know is kind of a secondary sign, and it and yours mold together to create you, is Gemini, which the book says... "changeability is both your strength and your weakness; on one hand, it can result in a person who is extremely versatile, adaptable, and spontaneious; on the other hand, too much changeability is likely to make you inconsistent and superficial", "you relate to the world best through ideas", "the problem is you often don't stick with any one thought long enough to develop it", "you have a strong urge to communicate", "your remarkable ability with words make you excellent journalists, teachers, writers, politicians, and salespeople", "you may often seem to be two seperate people, moving in two different directions at the same time", "you're a lot of fun to be around", and "your relationships with other people aren't deeply emotional". Most of which is also true. Anyway, I just love that stuff. Anyone else have a sign they'd like me to give them a quick rundown on? Lol.
If I had to guess, I'd say that... latch_22 is a Libra, artemis_rex is a Scorpio (maybe?) and chu_chii is a Sagitarius. But I am very bad at that type of thing, so I'm probably wrong.
