As predicted, my mother did indeed pass a kidney stone on Thanksgiving. She insisted that she could not take pain medication because it would make her fuzzy headed and keep her from cooking dinner, but the pain was so overwhelming that she was fuzzy headed and unable to cook. Oh that mom of mine.
So the tradition of finding new ways to stick me with cooking Thanksgiving continues. Over the years she has broken a tooth, stabbed herself in the eye with a mascara wand, thrown out her back, and had knee surgery. It's almost pathological.
The added twist this year was my step father forgetting how shop for the holiday so I had no corn starch or tin foil, and he bought a 12lb turkey and one bag of stuffing to feed 16 people. *sigh* Thank god it's only every other year.
On the plus side, my spicy pumpkin pie (with chili powder and cayenne pepper) was a huge hit.
