Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you've all had a marvellous festive season, and are bright and ready to face the New Year today.
I've occasionally felt through the last several months that I wasn't getting anything done - so many things that I planned on doing this year are still on the todo list that it's getting a bit annoying. As a lesson to myself in perspective, therefore, I thought I'd put together a bit of a list of what I did get done...
In 2009, I have:
- Moved interstate.
- Started a new job, doing the same sort of work as before, but in a completely different environment.
- Bought a couch, two armchairs, a dining table and chairs, a bookshelf, CD shelf and a desk (the last 5 requiring assembly... I am now mistress of the allen key...)
- Made a new circle of friends.
- Saw my old friends more often than in the last two years put together, despite now living in another state
- Made seven interstate trips (one for work, the rest to visit family and aforesaid old friends)
- Travelled to Sweden (for work) and to England, to visit more old friends (yay for old friends!)
- Slept only one night in a tent (probably a minimum record in my whole life)
- Made a wedding cake
- Made a new garden-of-pots from scratch.
- Kept roses alive in Brisbane's climate
- Learned to cook prawns
- Taken up salsa dancing (returning to dance in some form being a 2009 resolution...)
- Taken up pilates
- Succumbed to facebook, and spent entirely too much time playing silly games (confirming my suspicion that I should never go near World of Warcraft, lest I never come out again)
- Read 139 books, of which 17 were new to me.
- Saw the Dawn Treader set.
- Saw several koalas in the wild (well, in the garden at work, which is pretty close).
So, a busy year (even if not in all the directions I intended) and overall a good one for me. I'd prefer not to go through so many changes in a short period of time again, but I'm glad I did this set.
Looking forward, I think the plan for 2010 needs to include:
- Music. Once upon a time, I was able to play several instruments and read music fairly well. It's been long enough that I can no longer do any of that, but I think I'd like to try and get some of that skill set back.
- More calligraphy and other artwork. I have several projects pending in that area, but didn't get any work done on them last year.
- Finish the two pro-bono software projects that I have been promising but failing to deliver on for longer than I'm happy about.
Id like to add in the standard combination of loose weight, get more fit, learn-to-wake-before-9am, but I rather doubt my ability to pull any of those off, so I'll steer clear of those for now. Time will tell!
