Every time I start a new cake decorating project, I have to go out looking for references for the various flowers I am trying to make. Finding high-res flower pictures at the angles I need is occasionally tricky, though... and it always seems to be out of season for buying real flowers. Since my new rosebush is apparently confused enough to try flowering in mid-winter, I thought I'd grab the opportunity to archive away some reference shots of a blossom at various stages of its life.

Such a short life in flower. My sugar versions are not as as pretty, and they don't have the scent... but I guess they do last a bit longer. I prefer the real kind, myself.
