Censorship reflects society's insecurities with itself.

Political correctness is one of the plagues liberal policy has inflicted onto society. Instead of calling something what it is, you say something else as if it's going to change what it is.

For example, "retarded" becomes "mentally challenged". Bullshit. "Mentally challenged" is me trying to figure out calculus, not a kid with Down's syndrome trying to not swallow his own tongue. "But, Kyle, you might offend people!". How are retards going to be offended by being called retarded? Either they're not going to know what the fuck is going on (because they're retards) or they're cogniscient of their retardation, giving them the same capacity, in this instance, of someone who is not retarded (see next). "Okay, you asshole, but you might offend someone who has a 'mentally challenged' person in their family!". How so? Barring that I, myself, have a retarded uncle, I don't see how this is offensive in any way. If someone has a Mexican uncle, would they get offended if I said that tacos were "Mexican"? No, because it'd be retarded to get offended about something like that. To everyone: not using the word "retarded" isn't going to make retards any less retarded.

And even if you do placate the (overly) sensitive party/ies, they'll just pull the same bullshit later on. That's why gay people were all in favor of "gay" being used until it became too commonplace (read: associated with homosexuality) and are now claiming that even that is offensive (even though it's what they had been advocating in the first place).

I firmly believe that everyone should be realistic and honest. Disappointingly, however, most people seem to strive to be neither in all things, holding these traits up as abstract ideals rather than applied behavior. And since anytime I make a generalization people think "that's so true" but then refuse to acknowledge that it includes them, let me clear this up for you; it applies to you, dumbass.
