My name is Erica Dixon, My project was called Talents for the Town
When presented with the challenge of coming up with a service learning project, I did not know where to start.
There is so much in the world that could use our help, it is very hard to pick just one thing to focus on.
I remembered a quote that set me in the right direction, "Think globally, act locally"
I decided that to focus on hunger, and directed my attention to our local food bank.
With the help of some friends I decided on an effective and fun way to do so.
I organized and held a benefit concert for the colchester food bank, an event I called talents for the town.
To ensure the sucess of my I had to set up a date and fill out paperwork, secure acts, and advertise, it was no easy undertaking.
After the weeks of planning, it was january 10th, the date of my project,
I was conifdent in my efforts. I had a good location, some great musicians, and hoped for a good crowd.
Despite my beast efforts of hanging banners, flyers, and personally inviting people to attend, I did not have the turn out I expected.
Reguardless, the show went on, and the atmosphere of coming together for a cause was something I can not describe.
Not only was it a powerful experience, but a productive one, $167 was collected along with 62 cans of food.
I could not have imagined a greater out come for my project.
