I played chess three nights ago for about 2/3 hours. What's more, I spent a good amount of time actually analyzing chess strategies! It was awesome. Oh man, I had forgotten how much I love this game. P.S. I won. Woot.
Actually, it made me realize how much little things in my life keep me happy. I know I talk incessantly about music, but I actually do need more than that to keep me happy. We humans are a simultaneously complicated and simple lot.
Went to a Halloween party a couple nights ago in one of the dorms on campus. It was strange, cuz it was JUST the American kids there, but everyone was decked out in some sort of home-made costume, from bunny rabbits (me) to nsuo wura (water lady), to a laundry hamper (too funny). It was cramped, we had live African music, it was sweaty, and it was fun UNTIL random men appeared and started grabbing all the women. That's when I bounced. Almost exactly an hour after I got there... too bad.
My heart feels light and happy right now. Things are good. Every day alternates between up and down, but that's the way it is. I just don't have any good Chinese food to help on the down days, that's all. I've found that I need to repeat lessons about 20 times before getting them. But you know what? I'm starting to be ok with that.
Happy anyone? I am.
