#52: Let's get Started...
Holy. Shit. I'm just listenin to The Start's 1st album, the first song, Shakedown, has this kinda middle 8 or sumat where she's singin about dancin shoes an stuff. The song's kinda about bein an individual, an not bein a drone, an I'm sat there listenin to it a mo ago, an I heard, dead faint in the left ear "why won't you dance wi me". Why won't you dance with me? Brilliant. Queit, barely noticable... fanTAStic. They've got this song, t'only song I've listened to really, off of the second album, the chorus goes "wake me please so/ I can see it's/ only a dream/ only another dream", sung in this kinda rough but still melodic female voice. Proper good. A very good find of the past few weeks. Mind you, I seem to be goin through this phase of likin everything I hear. I dunno if it's a good thing or not; on one hand, I could just be listenin to the good stuff, an happen to be missin the bad, or i'm just very open minded an can see the good points to all I listen to. On t'other hand, there's also the possibiity of bein a complete music whore an havin no real opinion. Quite a cruncher, eh? Well, some other stuff I've liked recently is Atreyu (not brilliant, but not too shabby either), Still Remains, In Flames, Mnemic (like Fear Factory, but better. Beast of a Wild Boys cover). Next, I intend to listen to some Folley and Misery Signals.
I'd like to buy the albums, but I really can't afford, bein, as I am, skinted an bein dicked about by work. I've not made things better, but still, s'a bit of a bugger. So my plan's simply to get some blanks, like 100 for a tenner(!) at Toys R Us, an have some burnin seshes at Frogs' an Howard's, double the size of my collection. I'd love to buy all this stuff, but I simply can't. Most of it I prolly won't even listen to, jus find some stuff I like an bung it on mixes, y'know?
Cos I need some more stuff for my DJin next year, at the student's union. Takin it over from a couple of mates of mine, an I need more material, so if y'all got any ideas, feel free to drop us a name, preferably wi a link to a website. I can't promise to listen to it, but it'd be a great help jus to hear some stuff. Ta. Anyway, I'm lookin forward to that; I find it occupyin my mind a bit at times, just sit there thinkin, wiout wantin to sound too pretentious, what directions I can take music in. Y'know, go from, say, sumat fairly mainstream like Greenday, or t'Offspring, into sumat a bit more punkerer, Rancid, then where? Into some Clash, Ramones? Into some Boysetsfire, AFI, like hardcore? What about Capdown into some hardcore? Then where? So yeah, I need more stuff.
