Welcome to the two-day reprieve from the cycle of work and studying that makes the civilised world go around. I myself have always rather enjoyed these days, though a previous profession often replaced the down time with overtime on complex cases. While I miss the feeling of contribution, towards solving some mystery not unlike certain novels, I do admire the opportunity to sit back and read such novels without immersion in the work that inspires them.
Ah, that brings to light a slight weakness. Indulgence in the mass marketed paperback murder thrillers may seem like an uneducated escape, but they do offer some entertainment and reflect the hard work of a novelist. Not that I do not also enjoy the more complex intricacies of a nineteenth century short story, they have their own unique aspects that make for an equal appeal.
Enough simple reflections for the day, I believe. I do wish for everyone to enjoy the remainder of their weekends.
I believe there is also a slight staff function, if one may term it that, during this weekend, perhaps I could make an appearance. Though I do not indulge often in social drinking, networking with fellow professors can be rewarding in its own right.
