Summary: Like the cherry blossoms in April that bloomed so profusely they eventually withered, but something would once again bloom in its place and take over and that was exactly what happened to Riku and Kiyoharu’s relationship. A relationship of intimacy and passion had withered away with the touch of Mother Nature’s cold fingers as winter creeped up on the pair and when April came something else had bloomed in its place instead, friendship.
Steam rose from the coffee as the pair sat at the table on the side of the streets, children’s laughter heard as they passed by and the blonde stared at the older vocalist with a disapproving look on his face, fingers wrapped around the cup for warmth on the cool autumn day.
“Mori, what the hell are you thinking?”
The older man leaning back in his chair with half lidded eyes glancing over at the blonde who had a frustrated look on his face and annoyance seemed to be in hints of the younger man’s expression. He knew the blonde was angry and maybe even jealously flowed through the softer eyes of the pair, but he stayed quiet for the moment as if he was drawing his thoughts out over the question.
A tea that was growing cold sat in front of him, but as always the older man was too preoccupied with his cigarette and Riku knew that had to be the only damn reason the bastard stayed skinny, while he struggled with his weight every day. Fucking bastard ate like there was no damn tomorrow and yet stayed the same weight. When they had been together it was a constant struggle with Kiyoharu always wanting to eat all the time and Riku hardly wanting to eat, sighing softly as he leaned across the table and snatched the cigarette from the older man, snuffing the cigarette out against the table.
“Mori, Kiyoharu, you better start talking now or you are going to have a hot coffee thrown in your face. What the hell were you thinking?”
A look of annoyance crossing the older’s man face and he shook his head at the other moving to light another cigarette to spite the blonde and piss him off, and he did just that as he heard the annoyed huff and watched as arms crossed over the blonde’s chest and cheeks huffed out like a stubborn child, the foot that was tapping impatiently hitting the table and causing riffles in the blonde’s coffee each time the foot hit.
“I’m curious…” Words paused for a moment as eyes closed and he lit the cigarette, cheeks hollowed as he took the first drag off and he was almost expecting and waiting with anticipation like a child for his cigarette to be snatched a drag to be stolen, but he remembered who he was with and realized that tradition was only shared between him and the guitarist.
“Why should it bother you that I move in with someone?"
A frustrated groan and the blonde took a taste of the coffee, not that he needed any more caffeine.
“If it was a woman, fine, but another man? What about the press? Your fans? They don’t take kindly to that shit!”
A smirk slowly spreading to the devil’s lips and he eyed the other carefully. “Well, you’re gay and they still love your ass. I’m just bi.”
Eyes narrowing through blonde locks of hair and he could tell he had frustrated Riku so easily. “Goddamnit, Mori. I’m not fucking gay! Stop changing the subject!”
The older man’s eyebrow slowly lifted at that comment and Riku stayed quiet, staring back at the other stubbornly before Kiyoharu finally spoke up. “We’ve been over this. You admitted a long time ago that I changed your mind on that subject. Don’t try to deny it now, I never forget a word you said.”
Eyes lazily watching as fingers curled into the palm and knuckles turned white from Riku clenching so hard. “Relax blondie. I thought all of that through and where we are living it is private. It’s twenty minutes outside Tokyo. No one is going to find out about me or him. You’re like Kisaki. You’re too caught up in the press and worried about appearance to enjoy life for what it is.”
Dark eyes flashed dangerously at the older man and Kiyoharu paid no attention it, simply shrugging his shoulders as he took a taste of the tea that sat in front of him, placing the cigarette in the ash tray as he took a taste. Jasmine Tea. A great way to ease the stomach of any aches, but he had none and he almost felt compelled to offer it to the blonde who seemed to need it more than him.
“It doesn’t matter what I do with my life. I’m happy with what I’m doing. You’re clean of drugs and I did my part. We never worked out because we honestly never acted like a couple. Some days it just…” Picking up the cigarette to take a drag before he exhaled the cigarette smoke into the air as eyes lazily glanced over at Riku. “Lust. And when the lust finally died all that was left for us was loneliness. Maybe dating an idol is never a good idea.”
“Mori, don’t be a fucking idiot. I loved you, but…”
Words cut off.
“People change, Kenji.”
The blonde looking sharply at Kiyoharu and it had been the first time in years that Kiyoharu had ever used his actual name in such a serious tone and it had caught him off guard. Even when they had been together it was his stage name that was used and he never understood why, but he suppose it was just easier for the man.
Snatching the cigarette from the ash tray he took a drag off the cigarette, grimacing at how much stronger the cigarettes were than his brand of Neo Cigar. Slowly he exhaled the cigarette smoke and he just shook his head. “It doesn’t matter what I think, Mori. You’re going to do whatever you li---“ Words cut off by the sudden ringing of his cell phone and he saw it was a message from Kisaki, quick check and glance down before he was standing up. “I need to go, Kisaki needs me.”
“It’s a shame, you downgraded.” The words so casual, but they cut through like ice and Riku narrowed his eyes and it was one thing Kiyoharu knew how to get him was disrespecting the man that was like a god to him.
“I’m not fuck-“
“You mean he’s not fucking you. You don’t top.” A smirk on the older man’s lips and the pair knew he said such things to just grate the blonde’s nerves that were so easily to get worked up.
“Regardless, asshole. I’m not fucking my boss. I don’t see him like that and who I date is none of your business.”
“Then why does it matter of your approval who I’m with?” Tapping the ashes off the cigarette as he stared up at the other questionably.
The blonde himself had to pause in thought and action as he stared down at Kiyoharu with a confused look on his face, simply shrugging his shoulders as he readjusted the bag on his shoulder and grabbed his coffee from the table. “Mori, we may not be together anymore, but like you care for me and watch over me till this day, I do the same. Besides, of course I’d get jealous. You know that’s how I am. But, Kisaki needs me for recording. We’ll catch up another day.”
With a simple wave and the blonde was gone, disappearing into the busy streets of Tokyo and leaving the older man to sit there in thought as he idly tasted his tea. It was funny how in the past year things had changed. A relationship broken and beyond repair bloomed into friendship and a simple words of exchanged as two people started off as acquaintances blossomed into a relationship.
Taking a drag off his cigarette as he sat back in his chair and tilted his head back, exhaling the cigarette smoke into the air once again as eyes lazily watched the bodies bustle buy, the fence keeping him from the outside world or was it the world being kept from Kiyoharu and the labyrinth of his mind?
After all no one knew what went through the devil’s mind, but the orphne that waited for him at home and even then he didn’t know everything. A smirk slowly gracing his lips and he rose from the table at that thought, enough time had been spent catching up and being lectured like a child. He had watched Riku leave just as fleeting as his emotions had been for the older vocalist, but this time with hands stuffed in his pocket pants the older man could walk freely from the blonde without the pain in his chest.
Like the cherry blossoms in April that bloomed so profusely they eventually withered, but something would once again bloom in its place and take over and that was exactly what happened to Riku and Kiyoharu’s relationship. A relationship of intimacy and passion had withered away with the touch of Mother Nature’s cold fingers as winter creeped up on the pair and when April came something else had bloomed in its place instead, friendship.
They couldn’t be out of each other’s life and a part of them still would love one another because all past relationships take a piece of someone with them, but their friendship would be what remained now through the harsh winters.
Besides, the older man had found a flower that bloomed so rarely every twenty five years and he would protect that bloom from dying in harsh winters with the devil’s warmth. An eternity spent the devil will, watching over, protecting his orphne, his night blooming flower from whatever may come their way.
