Cigarette burning and resting between a middle finger and index finger, the hand belonging to no one else, but the devil himself as he sat in the living room eyes lazily glancing over the screen of the phone and reading the last text he had received nights ago from a faint, but familiar blonde vocalist. He almost seemed as if he had been made up in the devil’s mind as a figment of his imagination for temporarily entertainment and to amuse himself, he couldn’t recall the last time he had seen the short tempered blonde face to face, but there was no ache in his chest over the thought like it had been months ago. Just simply recalling and trying to keep track of whose face he had last seen.

Eyes lazily glanced over at the message on the cell phone that laid in his other hand, bring the cigarette to his lips and cheeks hollowed as he inhaled the nicotine and he closed his eyes reminiscing in the feeling of his brand of cigarettes and it seemed even though he had switched cigarette brands and then eventually returned back to his Marlboro menthols other things never did go back to what they were.

‘You idiot. Maatan is mine.’

And some things never really did change.

‘Our dog. Remember that blondie.’

A faint smirk on his lips recalling the small corgi he had bought for the blonde long ago and he ended up becoming attached to the damn thing more than he would have liked, but things changed and things came up and people changed.

Exhaling the cigarette smoke into the air at that thought and he glanced around the house he had just purchased and moved into. Boxes scattered about and it seemed it was a maze of boxes that lead you somewhere new around each corner. A perfect place for a child and a living hell for an adult that had to do all the unpacking

Another move. Another house. Another street to familiarize himself on. Another fresh start, but some things were still the same. There were still the two dogs that greeted him at the door no matter the home or where they were. The same dark oak furniture and the same tv that sat in front of it for people’s viewing pleasure, but then there had been things that he fought long ago to fight to not change and no matter how hard he tried, they changed without him wanting too.

But, that was how things went. No one was prepared for change all the time. No one agrees to change all the time. No one wants to change. It just happened. Thoughts broken by a familiar ring tone and he glanced down at the message with a faint smirk crossing his lips at seeing the message and he took the cigarette carefully snuffing it out in the ash tray. It was rare he smoked in the house ,but on a cold fall night it was hard not to stay in the warm disorganized house away from mother nature’s cold touch.

‘Be there in two minutes.’

Standing from the couch and the dogs rose from their bed on the floor as well at seeing their master rise, the small corgi barking at the sudden knock at the door and the man lazily guided his feet over to the door as he opened the door. The once familiar blonde most would have expected to see with dog in hand and a frustrated look on his face replaced by a slender guitarist who stood in the door way with a faint smile on pierced lips, bags in hand and stepping inside the door. His hands full and no words were spoken at first as the older man took the bags from the younger brunette and sat them on the table beside the door.

The devil’s hands now free as he shut the door behind the guitarist and in one quick moment he had the guitarists pinned against the back of the door, hands above the brunette’s head and a smirk slowly spreading across his lips as he brushed his lips against pierced ones before pressing a faint kiss to the smiling tiers.

“It took you long enough. I missed you…”

Rare words to leave the older man’s lips, but the words were returned and the devil’s smile only grew bigger at hearing those simple three words returned. Things had changed drastically in the past six months and the blonde that he thought he would have spent eternity with and couldn’t live without had been replaced.

People grew and people changed. It was hard trying to stop a thing and forcing one’s misery in a loveless relationship would have been foolish on any man’s part. But, some changes were meant for better and if the devil himself had fought any harder trying to keep a certain blonde around when the blonde didn’t want him, he would have never been able to open the door in front of him and find happiness once more as the door behind him closed.

Evolving to survive in this world was all a part of life, but this step for the older man wasn’t as hard as he thought it was and this changed had been for the better., both for him and the guitarist that stood in front of him, but also the blonde that still remained his friend after a failed relationship with his idol. And maybe the blonde did that because Kiyoharu had been his idol, but maybe they were just better off friends from the start.

A relationship that starts off from cheating, hiding, and lies is never one to last long, but all a person can do is look back and say they gave it a shot and move on and that’s exactly what the devil himself did. And the change hadn’t been so bad, but only for the better it seemed. One change he could live without any regret.
