Think I'm finally nearing the end of my cold. The congestion in my chest is finally starting to clear out and I can breathe again. Also finally managed to get the phone number and name of the physical therapy place from my doctor's office so I'll call them today too ( Read more... )

Hmm... Your laptop, do you routinely keep it plugged in continuously? Like even if it's at full power, do you still keep it plugged in? Even when you're using it, do you keep it plugged in?

If that's the case, then that's the problem, i think. The outlet is continuously feeding power to the battery, thus forcing the battery to conserve LESS power in order to accomdate the current. If you keep it plugged in, the battery will become confused and think it's at full power when really it's not.

I learned that the HARD WAY. I plugged in my computer 27/7, and now it will only last 5 or 10 minutes off the charger, 10 seconds if I try to view a video.

A friend told me that the only way to build up the battery life (besides buying a new battery) was to just condition it back to full battery--like you take it off the outlet, let the battery run out, turn it back on, let the battery run out, charge, let the battery run out, etc etc.i

Yeah, I always have it plugged in since I'm sitting at it for long periods of time. It's actually my main computer. It's not like I use it for an hour and then turn it off. If I'm gaming, I have that on for chatting and checking mail and stuff. The battery would keep dying on me all the time if I didn't have it plugged in.

I'll agree with the above poster... if you have it plugged in for long periods of time, I'd suggest removing the battery while it's plugged in, that way it won't be constantly on charge...

I've never heard of being able to condition a battery back to a normal charge... if you can do so, go for it.... but, generally I'd run the laptop with the battery out of it....

Wasn't aware you could run it without the battery in it.

Yep, you should be able to just plug it in with the battery out and it should run just fine. The only hiccup could be is there's a power surge/power outage, then you won't have the battery to act as a backup... but that's probably not an everyday occurance...

I haven't done it myself, so I can't say for sure that the method I described would work...

But that freeze idea is intriguing.
