Galileo: When Science Meets Crime

Since I need to keep my sanity, I’ve been endulging myself with various music and sometimes movies and TV series. Well, not local TV series, obviously. Local TV series doesn’t help me feel relieved, but rising my stress level. That’s why I have zero interest in local TV series.

So last week I started watching the second season of Galileo. It’s a Japanese TV series which was aired four years ago. Fukuyama Masaharu reprised his role as the genius assistant professor Yukawa Manabu. Shibasaki Kou was replaced by Yoshitaka Yuriko. In the second season Utsumi Kaoru (Kou’s role) was sent to Oklahoma to undergo special police training. She appeared only in the first episode, introducing Kishitani Misa (Yuriko’s role) as her successor.

As I expected, the second season was a disappointment. Kou’s acting is not a top class but at least she did it better than Yuriko. I felt like watching a high school student bugging an assistant professor instead of a top-notch female detective trying to solve cases.

Masaharu’s chemistry with Kou was totally in a different level compared to his and Yuriko’s. He and Kou look so natural together. When he was with Yuriko, he seemed a bit at odds. Not sure if that was how it should’ve been but the atmosphere was clearly different.

Another turn off factor is the cases are not as interesting as the first season’s. Sometimes the cases didn’t involve science that much. My only reason to keep watching Galileo 2 was Fukuyama Masaharu.

Too bad Shibasaki Kou didn’t return for Galileo: Manatsu no Houteishiki. If she did, the movie would be more interesting.

I hope there will be season three and Kou returns as Utsumi Kaoru. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see the power-up version of Utsumi after she receives special training in Oklahoma?
