Bizarro breakfast

Almost forgot to ask: am I the only person in the history of the universe who has ever made a white sauce as a replacement for the canned cream of mushroom soup called for in a recipe? Because I wanted tater tot casserole*, and apparently the can 'o' soup is de rigeur. Did I break some kind of universal law this morning? Whatever will become of us ( Read more... )

(yes, I married a Minnesotan)

I'd think you'd have to start with making your own tater tots and those fried onion things that go on top.

Truly, the white-sauce season has begun here. It's also been so chilly that the other evening I was forced to make yorkshire pudding, shiitake gravy, and breaded baked squash. Better to use the oven than to turn up the thermostat. And eating raises your core temp, too!

Dude, even vegans use cream of mushroom soup in Tater Tot casserole. (I use the Imagine brand.) You may well have broken several state and federal statutes.

I hope you at least topped it with either crushed generic potato chips or French's (formerly Durkee) fried onion bits...
