So Kelly & Stanley get down to Maysville, right?
Now they've never seen this house, other than the pictures the guy (who's ex-Navy) sent them. HA! I don't even think it's the same house, because I saw the pictures, too.
1. The fence is gone in the backyard and there is a creek at the end of the property.
2. The driveway - which was gravel - has been completely grown over with weeds, so they're not sure where it's at.
3. Either the neighbor or the landlord has a boat sticking out the end of what they think would be the driveway, so they couldn't get the jeep into the garage (which is behind the house).
4. THERE IS ONLY TWO BEDROOMS AND THE GUY TOLD THEM IT WAS THREE!
5. Leighton's room has BUGS in it and the carpeting wasn't cleaned.
6. Windows are broken or cracked all around the house.
7. The kitchen has cabinetry that is metal and smaller space than her two bedroom apartment.
8. The bathroom was very dirty and pee-stained all around the toilet.
9. The house is not level.
10. There are outlets STICKING OUT of the wall.
11. The neighbor's across the street have an old junk car sitting in their front yard and two trailers in the back. Greeeeeaaaaat.
This is f*g ridiculous. They were both crying, they were so upset. They spent the night at a hotel, and the cats had to stay in the jeep.
They didn't give the guy the lease or a downpayment, thank God. In fact he isn't even in town. Kelly thinks he's out of town because he knew how upset they'd be. Stanley was more upset that this guy was a Navy guy and lied to them. I told them, it doesn't matter, you can't trust ANYBODY.
Luckily they have one friend down there. He has a three bedroom house, but he has two roommates. But they said it ws okay for Stanley, Kelly & the baby to stay at the house until they find a place. Their furniture is due to be delivered in 2 weeks, but the Navy can hold it in storage for a fee. The stuff they brought down in the trailer is going into a storage unit today. It's cheaper to pay for a month of storage, even if you only use it for a week or two, than pay to hold onto the trailer.
Tomorrow they're going to call about a brand new 3-bedroom that's $100 more in rent. They heard about it from the concierge at the hotel. She gave them the real estate agent's number who's in charge of renting or selling it.
I feel for them. If I could, I'd hop on a plane in a NY Minute, but what could I do down there? Hold her hand? These are the moments when you realize that now you're an adult and have to deal with these things yourself. She's a military wife. Bumps in the road are to be expected.
(I also told them to call the health department & the city inspector about that house.)
