ROAD TRIP! (JAY LENO!)

Aug 15, 2005 11:32

got back from my third road trip to new mexico with matt. left at like 7 am on tuesday and drove straight to los angeles. we made it our goal to make it before midnight so we could say we made it all in one day. we pulled into the hotel and turned off the car at 11:59 pm! it was great. ac was broke in the room, so we didnt sleep so well, but we had to get up early to get tickets for . . .

JAY LENO!

ticket office opened at 8 so we got there at like 7 and were about 40th in line, but it was all good, we got tickets no problem. then we went back ot our hotel, relaxed a while, checked out, and drove to santa monica where we walked on the beach for a while. you know that dude on the tv commercials with the jacket with question marks all over it and he yells about how you can cheat the government out of money? yeah, i swear i saw him there, question marks and all. anyway, the taping was at 4:30, so the doors opened at 3:30 so we got there at like 1:15 and were about 50th in line. security was tight, and it took forever to get in, but we did. the studio was waaayyy smaller than it looks. our seats were not great. they were off to the left if you are looking at the stage, so we were kinda far from the stage, but had a great view of the musical guest area. they played a bunch of loud music to get us pumped. then it stopped and jay leno walked out in all denim with a microphone and explained everything to us. he was really casual. then when he was done he just said "so . . . any one have any questions? anyone want a picture?" he invited several people down onto the stage and talked to them and took his picture with them. he was a little perverted. when two girls from walla walla went on stage to get there picture with him he said "i think there is some partial nudity required for this photo" and when two other women came down he said "wow, i didnt know the cleavage convention was in town." i knew he made those cheap perv jokes to get laughs on the show, but i was a little disappointed that he felt the need to do them all the time. other than that he was really cool though. he left like 7 minutes before recording to get changed and a guy came out to get us pumped and make jokes and stuff. as the band played and the recording started, jay peaked his head out from back stage and waved. i thought that was awesome. i didnt know it at the time, but when i got back and watched the intro in slow motion, i realized I WAS ON NATIONAL TV! for about 4/10 of a second, but c'mon, thats awesome. it was a close up to. it was the fat guy in the red t-shirt, matt and i in the shot, then it zoomed out and flashed across the whole crowd. pretty awesome. the show was fun. after a bush joke i started the clapping and most the crowd followed. matt and i also laughed at some inappropriate times because we found some simple things funny. you can kind of hear us. the stiffler interview was pretty funny. he said "ball sack" twice but only once made the air. that was pretty funny. then there were the creators of cryingwhileeating.com. that was pretty weird. the musical guest, aqualung, was really good. we had a great view of that. after the show they told us they were going to film a jaywalking segment outside for the next night's show. we went out fast and got in the front of the crowd but didnt get selected to do it. we probably looked and sounded too smart. the guy next to us got to do it though. i didnt get to see the show the next night though, so i dont know who actually made it on. toward the end of the filming of the segment, i ran back ot matt's car in my flip flops to get my camera because there were rumors he would take pictures with people. and sure enough he did. it was crowded and hectic, but we got to do it! we ran up to him and i said "jay! we drove 1,000 miles all yesterday just to see you!" and he responded in an exaggerated powerful voice "A THOUSAND MILES!" and he asked where we were from and we told him and the producer or whoever it was took the picture and we shook his hand and i got him to sign my ticket. i also got him to sign a personal one for mallory (she really liked that). so as we were walking back to our car i heard this loud car coming down the street and i remember thinking that it sounded like something jay leno would drive. as it came into view i saw it was blue and small with do doors or roof, one of those you know, and then i looked at the driver and there was jay leno waving at me as he drove off!! it was awesome! i was on the phone with my mom at the time and i freaked out! that was the highlight of the day, needless to say :)

THE REST OF THE TRIP

after the show we drove to blythe,ca on the arizona border and spent the night. the next day was a boring drive through arizona via phoenix and eventually to albuquerque. the lightning at the end of the trip spiced things up a bit though. the next day we went mini golfing and walked around a mall until matt's kky meeting, which i got to go to with him. it was pretty cool sitting in on another chapter's meeting. talking to their president i got some good ideas for next year. then we went swimming at their prez's house and hung out til pretty late. it was fun. matt and i couldnt sleep that night so we stayed up till about 4 or 5 am just talking. it was nice, we havent done that for years. next morning he drove me to the airport. i got the last window seat for the drive home. nice flight.

so now im back. good to be home. kinda glad i get to relax for the rest of the summer. this has been a long entry so i am going to stop here. anyone on myspace can go see my picture with jay leno. its pretty sweet. go daWgs!
