So I'm thinking of killing one of my Milliways pups...

It's all there in the title! I'm seriously giving thought to the murdering of one of my pups from Milliways, and I'm actually really excited about it! But first I should probably explain a little bit, like, say, who and why and how.

First things first: The pup in Question is Jack (Subject Zero) from Mass Effect 2 (noscaredkid) who I began playing in Mways only just this month. I'm already madly in love with writing her, as it's awesome and different in so many ways. However, I was giving thought to her canon (she has yet to work through her canon, and is waiting on her canon-mates to do so) and I started to ponder the possibility of her not surviving the end of the game.

Not to bore you with the details, but at the end of Mass Effect 2, your final mission is literally called "Suicide Mission". If you haven't planned correctly, factored in the right character choices for the right parts of the mission, and even thought of stuff like 'who would be best at escorting civilians' and 'who is physically strong and who is strong but physically weak?', it is possible for some of your squadmates to die. Forever. In pretty harsh ways, sometimes. And these are squadmates you have spent LITERALLY the entire game searching for and connecting with. It's really hard to see one suddenly take a bullet to the head and die, or be carried off to his/her death by evil insect swarms. If you make all the wrong choices, you can actually lose EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF YOUR PARTY by the end of the mission, INCLUDING THE MAIN CHARACTER, leaving the ONLY survivor the ship's NPC pilot.

If you make the right choices, of course, everybody lives and runs off to kick ass all over the galaxy, which most fans strive to do and are not satisfied with anything less.

However, for RP purposes, I was thinking that when Jack and her other canon-mates (including the main character, Shepard) go on this suicide mission, at least one person should die. I think it would lend a serious element of tragedy to an otherwise resounding victory against the Big Bad of the ME universe, and I think it would really help convey the same feeling the game gives you when you first see one of your squad members die: nobody is invincible, anybody can bite the bullet.

Fun fact: the first game of the series FORCES you to leave one of your squadmates to die while you save another. It's your choice, but one of the two HAS TO DIE. It's harsh to choose and even harder to watch.

But anyways, I digress. Why kill Jack? I mean, she's loveable, fluffy, cute, adorable, has a loving family to go home to, etc.

For those of you that know nothing of the character (I'M LOOKING AT ALL OF YOU BTW) she is none of those things. I kept thinking about what Jack would do after saving the galaxy on a heroic suicide mission, and I came up blank. She wouldn't stay with Hero McHeroguy and his squad of loveable misfits, and she would have changed too much by then to return to simply wandering the galaxy killing and stealing. She'd be stuck halfway between her old self and a new one, with nowhere to go and no idea how to deal with the world anymore.

And then I asked myself: "What if she died? What if SHE was the one to die in the Suicide Mission?"

And the more I think about it the more I like it. She'd be stuck in Milliways, a ghost, and I think it would be interesting to see how somebody as powerful yet fragile as Jack would deal with the reality of death, permanent and everlasting as can be.

I really want to do this now, but it's all months and months away and may never happen at all. But this is a first for me. I've never, ever wanted a pup of mine to die, blaze of glory or off-screen death, either way. But now...now I really do.

Maybe that's weird, I dunno.
