Earthquake - again

Aug 16, 2008 23:08

Well now, there's a little irony that I spent a good chunk of my day talking about earthquakes and tsunamis in the booth at the county fair and what do we have this evening? An earthquake! No magnitude yet as by the USGS website, but the epicenter is about 27 mi NW of here, offshore of Trinidad. If the magnitude hasn't come it yet that must mean its greater than a 4 and had to be reviewed.

Update: Well the un-reviewed intensity is a 4.6 from the USGS, but the WCATWC says 4.7. I would imagine the tsunami warning center uses a conservative estimate of magnitudes just in case. Regardless, at that magnitude a tsunami is not a problem.
