Life had long ago taught Derek Hale not to expect anything good. Still, sometimes it happened. Unexpectedly, in ways he could never have imagined.
After all, who could imagine this?
Another fight, holding their ground but never quite winning, never getting the break between fights to lick their wounds. They learned to rely on each other. Derek gave up his alpha spark, but not his place in his family, his pack.
And when Scott curled up in his arms, needing reassurances, Derek pulled his Alpha close and kept him safe until he was strong enough to face the world again.
