Non-Fiction Writing...

So... my OT made a comment to me yesterday and I can't get it out of my head.  She said that I should write a book about my experiences as a special needs mother, one with a child who is neurotypical as well and how we/i've handled it and my outlook on it all.

I don't even read non-fiction books... but the idea is appealing to me.  God knows that writing What Happens To Us (my J2 big bang last year about a single father of a 5 year old with autism) was therapeutic for me, especially when I got to write out those moments that were completely my son (Yes... Alec was entirely based on my boy.  All but the last moment in the book with them cuddling was something he'd done).

I don't know though.  I mean, i'm not sure what I think and feel is really something that anyone else would find comforting.  But on the other hand, I still have pages marked from Jim Beaver's Life's That Way because some of his battle against his wife's cancer feels awfully familiar.

Anyway.... anyone out there a big non-fic reader?  What do you look for when you're reading something non-fiction about someone's life, or a specific topic in their life?
