Sooooo... after much nagging from everyone I know, I finally broke down and watched Glee!
The Good: OMG. The music! I love it and I love the dancing and such! The characters are funny and I see potential for some interesting growth/development out of them, esp. the Borderline OCD teacher and the driven-but-socially retarded girl. And, best of all. considering the challenges of the musical-esque nature of the show, they have good talent.
The Bad: Um, well, there is pretty blatant ignoring of reality. Title Nine means all school programs MUST receive equal funding. Also, I've never experienced high school to be brutal like that, but then again I lived somewhere that was ACTUALLY a small town, not where ever the heck this place is set. It didn't give a pop. number, but let me just say that 20,000 is NOT small. So whatevs. Teaching and school settings in the media rarely come across realistically.
The Ugly: Why did the pilot air in May and the rest of the show won't till September. I understand trying to create interest, but...well, pop culture normally has the attention span of a nat.
The Verdict: Despite the inaccuracies, one can successfully suspend disbelief to enjoy a good show with funny potential. Let's hope the pop culture's memory is a little longer than it normally is.
