Slumpy

We're in those funny, drifting post-christmas days. We're back from Nelson, Jamie's back at work and most of our friends and relations are still out of town. It's all eerily quiet. No plans for anything beyond maybe going to the museum (or somewhere equally cool and non-bright) this afternoon.

Christmas was nice but fairly low-key.  Highlights in bullet-point form.
  • Biggest disappointment: deciding not to go to the carols on the Cathedral steps (my very favourite part of Christmas) due to rain only to have it clear up the moment it got too late to change our minds.
  • Best sight: my Dad looking better than he has in ages and feeling well enough that we caught him hooning round the garden on Crispin's scooter.
  • Sign I may have seemed a little stressed lately: half my present from Jamie was a bathbomb and a massage voucher.
  • Best reads: we gave Crispin Gavin Bishop's childhood memoir Piano Rock which he near devoured. Jamie gave me Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill which is a very diverting ghost story. I'm about to start Russell Hoban's My Tango with Barbara Strozzi which I am looking forward to immensely.
  • Most fun that can be had for $2: feeding the tame eels at Jester House Cafe. Especially when they snatch the stick as well as the food.
  • Proof that Santa is really real: footprints in the ashes.
  • Best place for Friday afternoon drinks: the cafe/brewery at Founders Heritage park just after the Farmers market.
  • Best way to get home from said drinks: stealing the kids' scooters.
