Looking up (still fragmentary)

The Housecall people are happy to deal with our diabetic cat and can feed all the cats and water the garden for around half what boarding at the vet would cost. So i guess we do get to go away :-)

Jamie took Crispin to our dentist today. I am assured that there was no "talking down" and no threats of enforced parental abandonment were made. He noted the decay in Crispin's tooth but felt it was minor enough to be worth treating with weekly flouride rinses for six months and then revisiting rather than filling immediately. He also pointed out some plaque on Crispin's new molars that the dental nurse hadn't mentioned (parents need to know this stuff). Crispin still didn't love the experience but no one is traumatised so I think we'll happily keep seeing the real dentist (even though we have to pay which we don't with the school dental service).

I've had a couple of ideas for Christmas presents so, as long as the kids cooperate, I should get a few things crossed off my list in the next day or two. And the house stinks of spray varnish which means that the salt-dough decorations are almost out of the way and tomorrow we should be able to start mass producing potato-print cards.

This morning I got a beautiful Chrsitmas card from my German near-as-dammit-sister, Carolin, who has been "missing" for the last year since breaking up with her partner and moving house in a hurry. I was at the point of pondering the feasibilty of going to Germany to mount a ground search so it is an immense relief to know that she is alive and has a postal address. Too late now to organise a Christmas parcel but I sould be able to get something special there in the new year.

The only not-so-great thing today is that it looks like Ferdi has a mild dose of what was ailing Crispin. He's less miserable than his brither was and Crispin was only properly sick for less than a day so, while I've asked Jamie to stay home from his Geek Dinner tonight and I'll excuse myself from Playcentre Parent Help tomorrow, it's unlikely to be a big deal.

kids, christmas, teeth, sick
