Crispin forgot and opened the back door this morning and, of course, Hermes dashed straight out and over the back fence. So while Jamie took Crispin off to school I strapped Ferdi to my back and went off round the road to get Hermes back. I met a pleasant young man who was keen to help and Hermes was quickly located in the jungly garden of a very nice but quite likely eccentric old lady. She knows him well because he hid out in her garden a lot while our street had noisy roadworks. We spent three quarters of an hour quietly luring Hermes out from his hidey hole under the raspberry canes. Eventually the bowl of bikkies proved too much temptation and I was able to grab him and carry him struggling and yowling back around the block. My arms are bleeding and there are three big tears in my nearly-new t-shirt but he's home safe now. He gets the drain out of his shoulder tomorrow evening but I'm not sure if he'll be allowed out after that or need a couple of extra indoor days. It's hard for such an outdoorsy cat to be kept in though at least this is just for a few days and not the months he was on house arrest for after he got hit by the train.
