Bracing The Storms

"Two hours!" She exclaimed loudly in utter disbelief, ignoring the attention they were gaining in front of the cinema. "Two hours, Tiffany!"

"I told you, I forgot and I totally overslept!" Tiffany rebutted exasperatedly. "I'm sorry!"

Honestly, her tone had seemed more obligatory than sincere and it just seemed to add fuel to the fire. Taeyeon shook her head, speechless. She walked past Tiffany without another glance. She wasn't in the mood for a movie anymore. "Whatever," she muttered.

Tiffany moved to grab her hand but she merely pulled away and continued walking, ignoring the defeated sigh from the other girl.

Taeyeon never liked waiting and Tiffany had never made her wait longer than 15 minutes. "Two hours!" the thought screamed in her head and she felt upset again. She was also hurt by the fact that Tiffany had forgotten about the date. Taeyeon was really looking forward to watching that new movie with her and they missed the only time slot that wasn't fully booked; it was the weekends after all.

She stopped at the traffic light and looked the other way when she noticed Tiffany peeking from behind her shoulder. Feeling a slight tug on her pinky, she looked down to find it hooked with Tiffany's index finger and the latter's thumb lightly caressing it. She looked up and found the girl looking at her with a look that calmed her heart. She felt herself resign a little.

"Hey," Tiffany called gently. "I'm really sorry."

Taeyeon kept her face impassive, looking away again when she felt Tiffany move her hand to lace their fingers together. She let the girl pull her towards another direction and followed, letting out a small sigh. Tiffany must have heard it because she spared her a worried glance.

Not long after, Taeyeon found herself sitting in their favorite ice cream parlor with a bowl of her favorite berry ice cream. She ate in silence and hadn't even thanked Tiffany for the treat. Even though the gesture and dessert had managed to calm her down, she wasn't sure how to make the lingering tension go away. They were still new to fights and arguing.

They had been dating for 5 months and although they might as well call it official by how they had been exclusively dating each other, they both felt that they shouldn't rush it. They had agreed that since they skipped the friendship phase, which would have been the best time to get to know each other better, they should take their time with their relationship.

She took another bite and stole a glance at the quiet girl playing with her own bowl of ice cream. She thought about how they had only started disagreeing and arguing recently. Their differences were surfacing and it felt a lot like knowing a storm might be coming. It was unnerving but the more Taeyeon thought about it, the more she felt herself drawing closer to the girl. Ironically, she found Tiffany's imperfections and the girl's noticeable efforts to be perfect were heart-warming.

She looked down to her bowl and noticed how she was almost done while Tiffany's was almost untouched. It was peach flavored, Tiffany's all-time favorite, and it was melting but the distracted girl didn't seem to mind.

"Eat," Taeyeon blurted out, surprising herself of how cold she sounded. She guessed she was still a little hurt about Tiffany forgetting.

Tiffany must have noticed her tone as well because mellow eyes met hers and a small nod was all she managed before looking down again. She watched as Tiffany took a small bite, and thought about how disheartened the girl looked.

She felt sorry; she hadn't intended to sound that harsh. "Hey," she called, her tone softened and she quietly moved closer.

"Hm?" Tiffany hummed softly, not looking up, as she took another small bite of the melting ice cream.

Taeyeon reached out and stroked Tiffany's newly-cut shoulder length hair; she really liked the cute hairstyle. She tucked the loose strands behind Tiffany's ear and smiled when the girl looked up. "Let's rent a DVD and hang out at my place instead. Okay?"

Tiffany noticeably relaxed, nodding, and beamed brightly. The same smile that was comforting and warmed every part of her; Taeyeon couldn't help but think about how that smile was a lot like the sun shining through the dark clouds after a rainstorm. She was confident, then, that it would be worth it, bracing the storms with Tiffany.
