Day 01: Introduce yourself

Oct 01, 2011 18:05

For anyone who's interested, I'm doing the 30 days blog meme. I found this version here. I'll post the full list on Day 31.

I use the name humantales online because I'm not comfortable just posting my given name (address, phone number, etc) online publicly. However, I'm also not especially hyper about it.

I was born 48 years ago in West Virginia, grew up in Maryland, and now live in New Jersey. I'm a computer programmer (COBOL/CICS) and have been for fourteen years now and I've worked for the same company that entire time. Programming is my third career (fifth if you consider the part-time jobs I had in high school and college): I lived and worked with mentally retarded adults to get them as independent as possible and I worked as a customer service representative for an independent insurance agency. I suffer from diabetes (type 2), high blood pressure and depression, and am being treated for all three. I suspect I could also be diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome, but I haven't seen any benefit to going through the hassle of confirming that.

I've been happily married for 24 years; sometime in the next year I will have been married for half of my life. I refer to my husband as Goofy online; it's his main internet name. He's a little strange and I can't imagine trying to live without him.

Sixteen and a half years ago, I gave birth to a boy; in addition to his given name, we've given him the internet name of MaxGoof, Max for short, which seems to be sticking in general as well. He's a good kid, who has been diagnosed with Asperger's and ADHD, is sweet, nurturing and very interested in girls. (Fortunately for my nerves, he's not in the least interested in alcohol, drugs or cigarettes.)

We have a lovely home in northern New Jersey, where we've lived for five years now, and we're mostly happy. Despite assorted problems, we've been very blessed.

Online, I mostly hang out in fandom places. Currently, that's Sherlock, Doctor Who and Torchwood; I started with Harry Potter, and I'm now keeping my eyes out for whatever looks interesting. I enjoy writing, even if the consensus is that I'm not especially good.

After this meme, I intend to do some of the others around (30 days of Doctor Who, 30 days of Torchwood, is there a 30 days of Sherlock? Harry Potter?)

If you've stayed for this long, bless. And later.

30 days
