Had a lukewarm job interview a couple of days ago. Neither of us were crazy about each other. Never a good sign when one of the first things out is "SO...you do theatre..."

Ugh. YES. I do, and yet I somehow manage to have been responsible enough to hold down office jobs for the last DECADE while doing it. This actually makes me the OPPOSITE of a flake, if you must insinuate, dead-eyed manager-lady. Now, at this point in my day job career I've learned how to sell that as best as I can. At the indie theatre level it's really not all that disruptive. We just work around everyone's day-jobs as best we can. The fact that I've been going out for film/TV stuff the last couple of years complicates things SOMEWHAT, since auditions for that stuff tend to be during office hours, which means sneaking away for an hour or two now and again, though I'm perfectly happy to make up that time elsewhere. Admittedly that probably wouldn't have worked for this job, so...no harm no foul, I guess. But godDAMMIT! It was the first interview I've had for months, and it not going well, just...I guess bummed me out, even if I wouldn't have wanted the job. I'm rather out of money and this is a thing I need to solve THIS MONTH, or things are going to get even more uncomfortable. Just gotta widen my net a bit, and then narrow it down when things start to pick up again, which everyone assures me it PROBABLY will now that we're heading into fall, though I'll believe it when I see it. I just know I'm gonna end up working at Starbucks or some shit.

In better news, I'm PAing on a short film for a couple of days, so that'll fill up the coffers a bit, and be a new experience. I signed the contract with my agent yesterday, so that's all official now. Hopefully that pays off with some auditions.

Also finished that hired gun short screenplay I was bitching about. Or the most recent draft of it anyway. Still doesn't feel done, but structurally it's a bit more there, and i just threw my hands up on the ending and just decided to go super-weird with it. I mean the lead is a dog, and the antagonist is the Grim Reaper, it wasn't much of a leap to take it to weird. But it's...pretty weird. Bit of a deus ex cop-out, but I figure if you can get away with deus ex anywhere it's when you have super-powerful entities already in your story.

Sooo, I'm calling it a tie for now.
