Why can't I throw things away? I'm talking about things (crap?) that I haven't used in years yet hang on to them like old underwear and tires. I was looking for something the other day in the shop and looked in one of my tote box containers to see if this particular item was in there. I was sure that it was, but on the contrary it was not. I even took everything out of that box in case I might overlook it. But what was in that tote was about two dozen transformers. You know those little square black things that plug into a wall socket or some other electric outlet to recharge your cell phone, power your tablet or whatever? These were chargers from old computers, printers, phones, flashlights and a multitude or other low voltage appliances. Those things are long gone, some decades ago. When they died, expired or had to be replaced by newer updated ones, they (the transformers) went into this box. So, why have I kept these old things? I guess because these are still good and can be used again. So secretly in the back of my mind, I know that I could actually use them again if need be. But the truth is that any time you purchase a brand new widget that requires a low power source to operate or charge it, it comes with the transformer it necessitates. I know the old transformer won't be needed anymore but it still works. These things never break down or quit on you so they still have a purpose. Nothing goes wrong with them except that they might overheat and burn your house down, but that's an acceptable risk. In the back of my mind I just know that the day that I heave them into the trash, I'll need one three days later. So I'm going to hang onto these things a bit longer, just in case. Meanwhile, you know those little square things that you plug into an outlet and then plug your USB cord in it to charge your cell phone and tablet? Well, I seem to have started a colection of them in my top drawer.....
