I hope this story will be told for a long time...

"I'll talk about the person I met when I was young..."

+++

I'm misty, seeing this created. Literally. The music, the gameplay, even the final absurd engrish line... it's Faithful.

Half of it is nostalgia, hearing that tune blended into a modern form that isn't insulting, remember the hours spent that culminated in literally blowing up Hitler's face, and the inevitable reaction had to anything which instantly warps one to those purer, soft-focus lens days When I Was Young.

But the other half is the Faithfulness. Any company can take a license these days, turn it upside down, hold it by the gonads, and shake vigorously until a little money falls out, rolls forlornly in a spiral down a funnel into an accounting book somewhere, and then casts the license aside, now mangled and huddled over in the fetal position, sobbing. It's basically what publishers do, in any medium.

This remake, though... it was done by somebody who played the original. Maybe once a year, as a pilgrimage, like me. Somebody who made it over the bottomless pits by tarzanning from searchlights 20 stories high in the middle of the night, somebody who is A Dog Of The Federation, somebody who saved Super Joe.

If you did not play this game, you won't care.

If you did, now you know that the people like us, we have power now. We get to Make Things. We get to throw a blanket over that wounded franchise, get it some food, and wait for it to say "I think it's time for me to tell you the whole story..."
