October Topic Loyal:
People were always surprised to find out what loyalty meant to a Hufflepuff. Somehow, and Cedric isn't sure how, people tend to think that being 'loyal' equals being 'a doormat'. He can remember the first and only time he and Cho ever fought.
She thought he was being 'disloyal' to her by disagreeing with her. Even though they made up Cedric knew from that point on that he and Cho weren't going to last much longer.
What loyal meant to Cedric was that once someone earned his respect that he would do everything in his power to protect and defend them.
Which is what made the whole Triwizard thing so difficult to wrap his mind around.
Did he put his name into the cup and hope that Harry didn't get chosen?
Did he not put his name into the cup and hope that Harry did get chosen?
How much of Dumbledore's interference was helping and how much was just manipulating and did Cedric really want to be manipulated...unless it would somehow protect Harry?
In the end though, Cedric's loyalty was with Harry. And sometimes loyalty meant trusting someone to make their own decisions and standing up for their right to do so.
He was going to put his name into the Goblet - but not because Dumbledore or Sprout wanted him to, not because his father wanted him to and not even because Harry said he should. Cedric was going to put his name in because it was the right and loyal thing to do.
