This PCS was not the best. The move was crazy. Lots of things went wrong on the drive down also. Hertz screwed up our reservation, lodging tried to put us in the wrong type of room (regular hotel vs apartment), returning the rental was sort of a pain, and TMO here is a bit sketchy, as they have asked us for the same information several times.
Some things to be happy about though: things with the house are wrapping up, Rob's sponsor and his wife seem like great people and we are meeting them for dinner tonight, there are several AFIT people at this base already, and all of our fishies survived the trip down. Also, the commissary is really nice and the BX is seriously massive compared to our old one. From what Rob has heard about his job, it sounds like he likes it (he makes sure bombs blow up the right thing, apparently) and his cubicle is twice the size he had at our first duty station. I fly out on Saturday so we are trying to get paperwork together for the house and do fun things like explore Destin and take walks around this giant base. There is an education fair on base, and I'm going to see if any of them offer a PHd in Education (rather than an EdD which does not involve a thesis and is widely regarded in academia as taking the easy way out).
There is something under or outside of out TLF that sounds like a manatee's mating call. It is a little disturbing.
