Tudors

This week was pretty much the week from hell. Thursday in particular. Everything went wrong on Thursday. Liz was out sick. There was a huge fight. Had to call child and family services. Kids were off-the-wall-awful. Played phone tag with Rob. Had to scrape ice off my car in the morning. Got cut off on I-675. Pretty much a shit-storm of awfulness. This was the last week of review before the OAT's next week and the kids were done. I was never so glad to see the end of the school day on Friday.

Sean and Kate left for Hawaii this morning, and I drove them to the airport. I had to get up early to take them, but that is what friends do. I haven't slept well this week, so I am really looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow morning. This morning, after I lazed around for 2 hours drinking coffee and listening to NPR on my laptop, I went to the BX and commissary, and it was such a good day for shopping it was ridiculous. I found these super cute sketchers shoes I'd wanted for awhile, so not only was there no sales tax, but they were 25% off. I ended up paying about $37 for them. They are super cute and comfy. I finally broke down and replaced the belt they had been dying a slow death for several years (50% off!) and trouser socks I accidentally let the movers take. Then I hit up the commissary. Great coupon day, and I got to help some very lost Fireman looking for various items. After I followed them for a few aisles, the guy pushing the cart asked me if I was stalking him. It was the sort of innocent interaction that totally brightened my day. I made sure to make my left hand in good view, but helped them find raisins (they were confused as to why they were not with the nuts) and honey (in the tea aisle... hello). And explaining to them that kraft pre-sliced cheese was better because the package was recyclable. The glanced at the organic vegetables and granola bars in my cart and sort of rolled their eyes. I reminded them the base recycling area was maybe a block from the fire house, so they really didn't have an excuse. I was going through the self check out lanes and 4 of my coupons did not scan. I had to ask for help, and I could tell the woman was not happy I was asking her to take another $3 off my grocery bill. It is $3! Fix your stupid machines.

After that I graded papers, planned lessons after the OAT's, checked email, talked to Rob several times, entertained the cat, watered Kate's plants, checked the mail, and checked things off my "things to do to not get bored in this house all alone" list.

I had leftover pumpkin pasta for dinner. Which, by the way, callmeserenity you can make without meat in it. Pumpkin pasta is like indian food, delicious the first day, way better the next day. Now I am enjoying a glass of wine and really getting into the Tudors ((minus the sex scenes... although Jonathan Rhys Myers is pretty hot). My inner history nerd is really happy at this Hollywood-ized version of early European history. It reminds me of this awful history class I took at VT, when the prof gave us a handy mnemonic for remembering Henry VIII's wives (divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived). It made me think, oh man, I hated that class and ripped the prof a new one on the eval, but I learned something.
