Solstice Ahoy

Dec 11, 2020 18:31

Last Saturday morning was bitterly cold, and there was even a little snow on the hills. It didn't last the day but it was pretty while it lasted, at least when viewed from indoors in the warmth.

We're now less than a couple of weeks from the solstice, so it gets dark very early, and the weather's definitely colder now, too. All that, combined with ongoing building work that requires some of our attention, has meant that we've done very little in the garden this week. We did prune some bushes on Monday afternoon, but the resultant clippings have been waiting all week for me to shred them. The badger's been at one of the compost bins, too. All in all, not a resounding success from the gardening perspective.

We have managed to get a few things done, but they mostly concerned the building work. I moved a built-in cabinet in the "scullery" so that the builders could fit the controls for the new living room underfloor heating system beneath the boiler. I spent a while figuring out how to arrange the electrics in the new living room. We did quite a bit of research around wood stoves and paint colours. It all takes time, but, apart from the cabinet, there's not much to show for it.

I caught a couple of radio club zoom meetings, put together a radio club newsletter, and caught most of a couple of morse practice broadcasts.

Today we went over to Stroud to do a bit of shopping. It's the first outing we've had in a while, and we stopped on the way home for a walk around the Coaley lookout (seen in the photo above).
