Back and Forth...

Wednesday last week was a mostly quiet one, with a radio club committee meeting in the evening. I spent part of the day changing the oil in my lawn mower. The old oil took a while to drain out. It took a while longer to re-fill and get the level correct, partly because I over-estimated how much oil it needed, so had to take some of the excess out, and partly because it takes newly added oil a while to find its level in the sump.

Last Thursday's Morse practice didn't go quite as well as the previous week's one. That was only partly down to conditions. I took advantage of the continuing hot weather to give the lawn a mowing.

On Friday I went over to Gravesend in the evening. We spent the time chatting rather than gaming, but it was time well spent. I even remembered to take the guitar that's been at my place since March back to its home.

On Saturday morning I headed out West again for an appointment, but this time only as far as Tetbury, which turned out to be a pleasant little town with plenty of scope for Ingress and Pokémon Go play, as well as a fair bit of shopping. A little exploration down a footpath after the appointment led to a large electricity sub-station that was humming loudly. That at least partly answered one question I'd raised at the appointment earlier in the day. My drives both ways were relatively easy.

On Sunday there should have been an NMC rehearsal, but it ended up being cancelled, so I got a much-needed chance to relax at home all day.

On Monday, at very short notice, I headed over to Nailsworth. The motorways were not quite as relaxed as they had been on Saturday, but I made good time and was able to wander around a bit (with more Ingress and PoGo) before my appointment. I headed straight home after it in order to try to avoid the worst of the M25's evening rush. I got home in time to have a quick meal and then get out to the evening's informal radio club meeting.

On Tuesday I went to the other radio club's steak night for an evening of chat and food. It ran a little later than usual, partly because of the coffee (which has improved of late).

Wednesday seemed to involve a fair few phone calls. I got out of the house for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Among other things, I saw (and was presumably photographed by) a Google Street View car. Second time I've seen one this year. First time was in Kenya in January. In the evening I went out to the local astronomical society's meeting. The visiting speaker gave a very enthusiastic talk about the first half (as far as Saturn) of the Voyager missions.

Thursday morning's Morse practice didn't go quite as well as last week's one. I hope this trend doesn't continue. I got out of the house afterwards for some fresh air, and managed to get home just before it started to rain.

This morning it was raining. I woke up early, and remembered I'd not put the re-cycling bin out the previous evening, so I got a slightly damp start to the day when I rushed down to do that. While the rain has stopped (for now) it's still decidedly grey outside.
