Twelve Days More... (pt. 2)

Oct 10, 2017 18:58

Friday morning was relatively relaxed, apart from a bit of kit shifting. The main set-up happened on Friday afternoon, as usual. I caused a minor complication by turning the small digital stage-end box over without similarly arranging my notion of the numbering order. It took a while to find that microphones 1 to 8 were in fact numbered 8 to 1. Oops. Easily fixed once the problem was found...

Somewhere along the way we managed to fit in some rehearsal for the opening ceremony, which involved "One Con More", a Franklin re-write of "One Day More" from Les Misérables. Come Con opening time, it happened flash-mob style, and seemed to work well. Once the opening was done we were into the evening's programme, with fine sets by Phil, Gwen, and Steve. After them there was some circle activity in two rooms, and I stayed up rather later than was wise.

I suffered for that, somewhat, on Saturday. I attended the harmony workshop, which this time involved the setting of "Is Somebody Singing" which is familiar from NMC. We got a fair way through the piece in the time available. The afternoon programme included sets by Alexander Levin, Rika, Dave Clement, Scott Snyder and Tim Griffin. After dinner there was a special 20th anniversary concert, including a selection of songs from past guests of honour, and at some point in the evening there was cake. I stayed up a little less late on Saturday night than I had on Friday night.
