Twelve Days More... (pt. 1)

The Tuesday before FilkContinental was a long one, involving a little local activity (mainly re-locating radio club stuff) and a long round-trip to Cambridge via Gants Hill to collect instruments, tech, and Deborah. We got bach back quite late...

The Wednesday started fairly early. We managed to get a slightly earlier crossing than the one I'd booked, though that meant a rather quick stop for coffee etc. at the terminal. Traffic across Belgium and Germany was not wonderful, and we ended up taking a slightly circuitous route. It wasn't helped by my having a brain-fade at a critical junction and taking a turn into Brussels rather than the one that would have kept us on the ring. We took the opportunity to stop for fuel and lunch. In Germany we found we had to hop back and forth between the A2 and the A42 to avoid hideous traffic. We got to Bielefeld after 7pm. There was a bit of back-and-forth during the evening between Heepen/Mitte and Senne.

On Thursday I took Alex across to the other side of town for an appointment in the morning, and then we went back to Rika's. I went on from there with Deborah to Wernigerode, leaving Alex to find her own way home. The drive to Wernigerode also involved some switching of routes to avoid hideous traffic problems. We got to the hostel around 5:30pm. Others were less lucky. The evening involved the now-traditional pre-convention meal in the centre of Wernigerode, this time with sixteen or seventeen people at the table. It was a good evening, despite the travel stresses...
